My name is Steven Houser and I live in the foothills of Western North Carolina in
Rutherford County.  Growing up I remember my dad taking me hunting and fishing in our surrounding woods and waters.  My dad would take me squirrel hunting as a child, these hunting trips are some of my favorite memories.  When I was fourteen I decided to pursue whitetail deer with my new compound bow.  I chased deer for four years with that bow and never arrowed a one.  I saw many deer and learned allot, but I never closed the distance.  At the age of eight-teen I purchased my first deer rifle.  All that I could afford with my part time job was a Chinese SKS that I paid around $80 for.  That next season I bagged a large eight pointer.  From that point on I've been hooked and have taken my share of deer over the years.  It took me five more seasons to arrow my first deer and now bowhunting is my favorite way to hunt.  I now have many places to hunt that are within a 15 minute drive of my house.  River bottoms, dark hollows, pine thickets, mature hardwood forest, clear cuts, creek beds, ponds, lakes, and rivers shape the landscape of the areas I hunt.  This year will be my fifteenth year in the woods chasing deer and I hope to spend the rest of my falls somewhere in the deer woods.  I also enjoy turkey hunting, squirrel hunting, dove hunting and still love to fish in both salt and fresh water.  I became a member of the North Carolina Bowhunters Association this past year.  I also walk little old ladies across streets and hold doors for females.  My most prized title is that of father to an awesome two and half year old little boy.  His smile makes all of my worries disappear.  My wife is a big part of the strong foundation that holds me together.  I am a proud father and husband.
